Wow, that is a pretty color. What body of water is that part of??

  4.  Lars Walker Says:

There is green water in at least parts of many fjords. This is due to glacial melt. The glacial ice contains tiny microorganisms that turn the water green. Fascinating and beautiful to see. (You probably know this Anneberit, but for the sake of non-Norwegians…).

    Val, Deb and Rich!

I love the color too; you should see it in such big quantity :D The fjord is BIG! In fact the largest fjord in Norway (next largest in the world - the other one is at Greenland and is partly covered in snow…) The fjord is easily spotted on a map of Norway because it almost cuts the country in two (at least the western part!) I live 1/4 in the fjord; so it’s not that far from the ocean :D

    Hi Lars!!

Yep, it’s the ice melting all right. We call the microorganisms for PLANKTON, I don’t know the English word for it (and have no dictionary handy..)

But this year it’s really special. I don’t think I’ve seen the fjord so green for so long time before. And the fjord is sooo big; that’s a whole lot of microorganisms :D

Maybe it’s due to the cold weather and the slow melting of the ice??

Plankton is the English word too.

    Funny! Thanks :D
    Happy Ascention Day!
