Yesterday MT was invited to the birthday party to one of the boys in his kindergarten. This was his first invitation to any such thing around here, so he was in gear from early morning, but I assumed it was only about 10 kilometers down there, so we (or I might say, I!) took it slowly.
I looked up the address online right before we left to make sure I knew exactly where he lived, since we only had the minutes we needed to buy a present and then get there on time. It was then I discovered to my horror that this boy lived almost 30 kilometers from us! No way we could make it on time and to make it worse half of the road was small and curvy. MT took it with a smile, though, and when we arrived 15 minutes late everything seemed alright. And it still would have been, if MT hadn’t bought the water gun, and I hadn’t told him to leave the toy in the car. Oh, my, he cried for the first 10 minutes and then he needed almost 10 minutes to recover himself and start having fun with the other children. Parenting is hard sometimes.
My plan was to go shopping while MT had fun at the party and then came back early enough to a bit of chat with the other parents. But it was just so far away from any shops and the other parents stayed. So I stayed put as well and had a really nice afternoon in the sun getting to know the others a bit more and learning a more about our place of living. And MT had so much fun and he even managed to sneek up to the car and show the other boys his new favorite toy. Poor guy. ![]()
