The weekend a couple of weeks ago MT and I went to MT’s very first Church Camp. I’ve been wanting to introduce this to him for a while since I myself had so much fun going to camp every summer when I was child and teenager. But there isn’t many camps for the youngest that’s not Family Camp, and I didn’t want that. Finally I found that at Fjordglimt campsite there was a MiniCamp in the middle of June. So we went!
Friday
We arrived late because the trip took half an hour longer than what I had planned and because I was late due to work related business earlier in the day….. I didn’t know anyone there so we walked around for a while, not knowing who was in charge at first. But right before supper I found the right person and we got our name tags as everybody else.
There were just above 20 kids and a good handful of parents and grandparents at the camp, so not too many and not too few. During supper I got to know a few of them a little and in between happenings during the weekend I enjoyed talking with the adults and sharing thoughts an lives.
There where a couple of gatherings for the children (mostly) that evening. One to get to know each other and play games, and one good-night gathering with singing and a short bible lesson.
MT had trouble sleeping because off all the noise, he isn’t used to having so many others around him - and not used to crying from the smallest children. Between the rooms where only thin walls. But after having me around for a while he settled in and after a short while I was allowed to leave to go and have coffee with the other adults (my first cup of coffee that day since it had been a really busy day. Oh, that was some good coffee!!!
)
Saturday
This day was filled with activities. Bible lessons, songs, food, talking, laughing, playing, going on treasure hunt and bathing to mention the most important happenings. During the day I was away for 1,5 hour to do some shopping for the church so I missed the pirate hunting event (MT was there, off course). But the day was packed so plenty of other things to catch….
All the day MT kept asking for when we where going to the bathing place,
he was so eager to get out in the water - not minding it being far to cold for most of us
In the evening MT was so tired that he almost fall asleep before he was in bed. No worry about crying babies that night…. He wasn’t the only one tired and by 11 pm I was the only one of the adult still wanting to be awake. So I went to our room and did some reading……
Sunday
This was the day MT found that camp was no fun. Sadly. He was so tired of having so many people around for so long that he couldn’t manage anything other than complain. Thankfully he got some time by himself, when we adults cleaned the rooms and building, and he lighted up a little.
Guess who fall asleep in the car home, though! (Nope, not me; that wouldn’t be much safe driving….
)
Next year we’ll be back!
Anyone want to join us??! ![]()
