* HELLO FALL! *

I’ve really not been okay saying farewell to summer, but now as September is here I feel that I’m ready to embrace the new season approaching. Yesterday I tried to find the beauty in the changes. Thankfully it was a warm and sunshiny day, after so much rain in August it felt almost as a relief. I guess we have more rain coming, but just now I want to enjoy this new month and the new season. Hoping for good things to happen.

Photos taken from this blogpost from September 2nd of this year. I knew the photos had to be included in a scrapbook double spread somehow and I am so glad to have made this. I tend to scrap quite a few of my blog posts, sometimes it is the words that is important to me other times, like with this page above, it is the photos that inspires me.

* BE ME! *

Sometimes I think the world don’t need me. Sometimes I feel like I need to change in order to be loved and met with understanding. Sometimes I try to be someone I’m not. Sometimes I forget that I was created unique. That I was meant to be me.

Photos from last year, taken in our hallway mirror. The elements from the kit inspired the words. I really, really want my life to be like the words on the tag by the big photo. And to be true to my self and what I am is a daily joy and struggle.

I love to scrap about my kid and the farm and more, but every once in a while I try to scrap about myself, I can’t scrap all this pages about us as a family and then say nothing about me, now can I? And who else can tell my story better than I can?

* YOUR HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS *

The first time I saw it I caught my breath and was amazed, both about the simple beauty and by the strong symbol for everyone driving by. Later it got me thinking about this saying I love: Your home is where your [heart] is.

I’ve been driving by this heart so many days. I am so glad I finally got time to stop and take a little photo of it. It deserved a page all to itself! Love all the thoughts this heart gave me over the weeks.

Thoughts on Beauty and the Creative Life

He loves to lay down on the floor with a sheet of blank paper in front of him having a movie playing on the screen. He looks at the movie and he draws, sometimes more into the movie, sometimes more into the drawing. Tonight he drew a new kind of house.

It is the house we are going to live in in the future, he told me.

And then we looked at the drawing together, deciding which part he is going to occupy, which part I am going to living in and what everything else are going to be. I love how he fills our house with his drawings, even when I get a bit tired of finding half drawn sheets of paper all over the floor most mornings. I am so grateful to see that he expresses himself through creative ways. I hope he never forgets to imagine, to dream, to make, to create, to not accept that ‘it can not be done’ as good enough answer when it comes to thinking or dreaming up new creative ways to do or live life.

It might seem like a waste of time to dream or make art. But I do not think that it ever is. I think it is one of the most important things in our life; to believe we were created with this wonderful ability to imagine and make, that we can do as the Master Creator does: create things of beauty. Not only because they are practical and useful things – but because they make us HAPPY.

And beauty is so much, we can only take a look around us: people, plants, animals, flowers, houses, the shapes and the colors of things surrounding us all have something beautiful in them. Even my orange crocks and my tea mug got chosen because of their color (crocks) and shape (mug) that I found to be beautiful. I am sure if you look around in your own living room you can find something that makes you smile with delight. And if not, give room for your creative side. Make something or find something other have made and celebrate the beauty you see.

¹¹ He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. ¹² I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. ¹³ That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.

7 Good Things Today

1. I got up bright and early to attend a webinar with Katerina Kennedy for her class Your Life: Captured through the lens. I was not sure if i could manage to get out of bed at the crazy early hour of 3 am, but i did, and it was so much fun being there with the rest of the photo crazy girls, telling what we thought about the photos and hearing Katerina describe how she feels about them as well. I was so honored to hear what she and the others had to say about a recent photo I took of MT sewing on his Great Grandma’s old sewing machine. She pointed out a few things that could have been better, but also said so much nice about the things that were good.

2. Early this morning, in my email, I found a note that said I was one of the three lucky winners to the Christmas card making class Holiday Card Boot Camp 2011 with Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner. That totally made my day and reminded me that leaving a comment for these give aways (the ones I would love to win) every once in a while pay off So happy about that and can’t wait for it to start in the second week of November

3. I am excited for the new photo workshop with Katrina starting next week. It is called Exposure and is all about finding the right exposure for the light you are working in to get great photos. I so need to work on this and can’t wait to learn how to handle the reds and how to get the most out of the condition i shoot in.

4. Fall is in its latest stages here and we have had several days below zero. Most mornings there is a beautiful little mist of frost on the ground, some days more, some days less. I find it beautiful, but I don’t look forward to changing the tires on the car, it is a time consuming job. I should do it tomorrow, but I guess I will wait until Saturday because then I have to do it….

5. MT have started ski training again, so far without snow. He said it was fun because they got to run around the 1 kilometer path behind the school. I know for sure I would not have found that any kind of fun. The path is nice to walk, taking my time, but to run?! It goes up and down, up and down and up and down. Seeing me skiing there is enough to make even the most serious dude cry with laughter, sigh. I love that MT skis cross country like he was born with skis on his legs. I kind of envy him, but also love how much he enjoys it.

6. There are a lot of good plans going on in our church right now. One of those is a club for youths using one of my favorite hobbies to learn more about the Christian faith and the Bible stories. Can’t wait to join in getting this one off the ground.

7. Lastly let me tell about the beautiful sunset we saw while driving to the church council earlier tonight. It was all blue and several shades of pink + purple. It took all that i had not to stop and try to capture it with my iPhone. To try and catch the colors somehow. But i had a meeting to attend to and was already running late!

Mouse Hunting the MT way

We had a little mouse in our kitchen this morning. I was planning how to get rid of it when MT told me that he was on the job.

I will catch it with my hands. And then I can take it outside.
Do we have any cheese?

It took some time for him to get the cheese ready and he sat outside the cabinet and listened after the mouse while reading a few books. I told him that he might do better on this mouse hunting business if he was a little bit more quiet. But he told me he had control over things just as they were.

So I went about my day, went to the store to get some cheese (of the right kind) just in case MT didn’t get it – and honestly I doubted that he did – I had no plans to let a mouse wander around in my kitchen for one more day no matter how cute MT found it to be.

But then as I came down stairs after doing a little bit of cleaning in my bedroom MT stood by the front door all smiling.

I got the mouse.

You what?
Did you get the mouse with your hands?

Yes, I was really fast and got it just as it was running. I took it with both my hands and bought it outside. Just as I lowered my hands to the ground the mouse starting wriggling a lot and when I let go it run so fast!

Way to go my son, I’m impressed! And the mouse owe you her life.

The Long Tale About Bringing Him Home

I can’t believe it’s been so long. But today, tonight, it’s 6 (six) years since I brought MT home.
Can you believe it?!

I’m spending it all alone since MT is at his Grandparents, but I’ve used the time good and written down The Long Tale About Bringing Him Home. So here it goes:

6 years ago right about now, I guess I were still on the plane. I was so tired, had been awake all night. So much had happened. The long waiting at the air port in Addis Abeba. The flight in the middle of the night. The uneasy sleep of my little 2,5 year old. The no sleep for me. The early, early morning landing in Frankfurt in Germany. The hours spent at the Mac Donald, eating, playing and talking. Then we had to say farewell to my good friend that had been with us for over a week, I cried and MT screamed, we almost lost it there for a while.

But then he got to meet his Grandparents and got treated with a pizza. He started to smile again and being his goofy self; charming his Grandparents from the very first moment they met. After some hours of talking and getting to know each other, we had to say goodbye again. Not easy, but easier. He had not been with them as long and i think he understood that he would see them again, soon. When they would come to visit us by the fjord were I lived and he soon should live as well.

There where some more waiting, it seemed like for ever. I was so tired and was really relieved when we finally could board the plane. MT decided that he wanted to sit right next to the rotor blade, he found it funny to watch. I felt they might be a bit to noisy for my liking, but hey, it is only one hour flight. I could take that.

It took some more hours to get home. There were fog at the air port, we got rerouted to the main city. When we landed i almost cried again, I was so very tired and kind of emotional; being a new mom and all. My kid was sleeping next to me safely tucked in the belt that i had to bribe him with candy to fasten without too much crying an hour earlier. It was something new to him, they didn’t use belt much in his country. Not that he had flown an air plane before either.

They told me that every one had to leave the plane and go wait inside in the waiting hall. It was too much for me and I almost cried. The stewardess understood me, she was an adoptive mom as well, she said she could eat her lunch in the plane and stay with me. I haven’t words enough to describe how happy that made me, how understood i felt, how thankful I was for that my kid got to sleep and i got to just sit there talking about my boy, about adoption with someone that understood and knew.

After a while we got to take off again, the fog had cleared. We headed for our final destination this day, finally. When I walked out of the plane, with my kid next to me – he woke up when we got there – I cried again. Happy tears this time. Because another good friend stood there waiting for us. Waiting for us to come of the plane, waiting to give each of us a good hug and a welcome home, waiting to drive us home.

And while we drove we got to talk a little, my friend and I, while my kid slept some more. And our day was finally almost over. Finally home, me and my kid, ready for our new life together.

friends & coffee | retirement sale

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while. And if you care about scrapbooking. My guess is that you’ve noticed that I’ve been on a couple of Creative Teams. The one I’ve been on the longest is the team working with Sweet Tomato Designs product, and I’ve loved my stay there. Sadly Cara, the designer, have decided to step down from designing. I’m really going to miss her and her bold colors! Luckily she doesn’t retire as an online friend
