Summer Vacation 2012 | day 2 + 3

It did not take long before MT was ready to visit his good friend from when we lived here. They were neighbors back in the days. And thankfully they where home and MT got asked if he wanted to stay with them for a couple of days. If he wanted to? He didn’t even have to think: YES! Off course.

The very next morning he went down to them, and had so much fun. The weather was nice and they spent most of the time down by the fjord - swimming, jumping, talking, catching crabs and playing. Talk about the summer feeling!

I spent the day with my friends and their family. Not a lot of photos at all, but here are a couple:

On Friday I slept for a long time and ate late breakfast outside while talking to my friends.

Then we went down to get MT and spend a couple of ours down there by the fjord. It was BEAUTIFUL. Glad to have a chance to catch up a little, it’s been two years since I last was there.

In the evening my friend and her granddaughter made birthday cake. And then we just hang out a little.

In the evening we went by the lake – and I had my very first swim of the season. It was both nice and really cold. And with that another couple of great vacation days were over. So thankful for my friends.

Summer Vacation 2012 | the birthday edition

I’ve always loved celebrating my birthday – even now as an adult. As each year passes I’m more and more aware of how precious this life is. I love my life. I love my family, my friends, my faith and all the other bits and pieces my life is all filled with. I’m not worried about getting older, each and every year I have more to be grateful for and more to add to my story. I hope I can keep thinking this way for as many years that I’m lucky enough to live in this beautiful world of ours.

I’m not saying every day is nice. Because they aren’t. There are hard days and difficult memories, there are hardship and heartbreak. There sure are. But that is not all there is. And I want to remember the good, hold it dear and try as hard as I can to keep in mind that this life is a gift given to me and I get to fill it with as much good and happy as I possible can.

This year I got to spend my birthday with friends I love. Noting special, just hanging around and talking, having some cake and a barbecue in the afternoon so even the littlest among us got to join in. The weather has been good with warmth and sunshine. The evening came with rain, but the sound of it makes me smile. I’m going to treasure this day and keep it close to my heart. This is just how I love it. Simple, easygoing and with people that makes me feel loved.

I snapped a lot of photos today, many of them will be kept for friends and family only – but here are a bunch that I want to share with you. Thanks for looking.

The Daily Digi | July Layout

Every month I get to scrap with some of the most gorgeous kits from various designers in the digi community. I love being a part of The Daily Digi Team – and most of the pages I do for them ends up becomming some of my all time favorites. Below is a look at one I did for the July edition of The Digi Files, using a kit from Design by Dani.

I love taking photos of flowers, but I’m not good at scrapping them! Glad I have this story down. Have you been snapping or scrapping something lately of the nature kind?

Last week

The week we just have put behind us was my second week of vacation (thankfully I have three whole weeks left!). We spent the week doing lots of things that needed doing. Some of it was quite tiresome, some of it was quite nice and even great. All in all, I’m so glad we spent the week doing what we did – and getting some great help in some of it as well. Here are a few instagram photos and the story:

We came up to our old house by the forest on Sunday night. We haven’t slept over in the house for a couple of years, MT didn’t like the idea of spending the night there (he wanted to be at home and with his playstation and TV screen) – but we made it like a camping trip and it wasn’t too bad, even MT had to admit that!

Monday morning I got up a bit later than I planned and found that my aunt had called; she wanted to know if I could use some help washing down the house (we are planning to sell it) – because she and my cousin had some free time. If I wanted help?! YES PLEASE! It made me so glad to know I didn’t have to do it all myself. After breakfast and a short trip to the store, down in the little town by the lake, MT and I started. I was so pleased to see him making an effort to help (at least for a while). He did wash down his own old room, with only a little bit of help from me.

We washed all day long. A couple of times we took a break and sat down to eat cake and dink a few cups of coffee together. I got to catch up on life with my cousin and we all got to hear MT tell us his favorite jokes.

In the evening I looked out to see all the grass grown wildly where there used to be a lawn, thinking to myself that I needed to tackle the inside of the house first. Then I thought about the many nights I’ve been gazing up to the trees and the sky west of the house; love this view and miss it now that we no longer live here.

Tuesday was another day filled with washing and clearing. My dad came and helped with cutting down the gras (that was a BIG job!). I and MT filled the car with cardboard boxes and went by the recycling station. Twice. I was happy that my aunt and cousin could help us out this day as well (THANK YOU!).

In the evening we drove back home, filling up my dad’s car before we left and brought a few more things home. It was good to spend the evening just doing our favorite things. MT said something like our home is where our stuff is and did not miss the old house by the forest as much as I. Oh, well, I’m glad he is happy right here. I am too.

Wednesday we left early since we had an appointment for the car at a garage to get the EU-control done (Norwegian law says that all car needs to pass this test regularly). Luckily we had some extra time  on our hands, so we got there in time even though I took the wrong lane at an exit and had to drive through the city and back before we got to the garage. While we waited for the car we bought a cup of coffee (for me) and a milk shake (for him). I even got to read a little in my book. MT talked to the birds gathering around the table and had fun looking at them and making up stories. The car did not pass the test, but it’s an easy fix, I have until the end of July to get it done. So now back to vacation and other thing we need to do.

Like visiting IKEA. MT got himself a new bed. And we ate some meat balls.

And visiting old friends. It’s been so long since last time we went to their house (we’ve met them at their cabin in the mountain lately), so we struggled finding our way. But finally we found them and had a sweet evening together.

On Thursday we met my friend for lunch at Grønland in Oslo. I haven’t driven in Oslo’s streets since I lived there many many years ago. It’s scary to see how much of the city is unknown to me now, I drove wrong several times on the way out of it too.

Friday was a big day. I got to pick up a couple of important things: my new glasses and my new camera (more on that in a later post). Yay! And then we went and visited The Farm and my parents for a couple of hours before we saw Ice Age 4 at the movie theatre. MT loved the movie and said it was better than the 3rd. I’m not sure if it was better, but I loved it too. Seeing it in 3D was fun.

And then we went up to the house by the forest again and spent the night.

On Saturday we did a few things around the house before we left for a few errands and went back home. The week’s taking it’s toll on me, so it was good being back home, relaxing and reading and not doing anything of importans for a few hours. Or, well, I did wash a few loads of laundry. But, still…

I slept for a long time on Sunday (too long to be honest, but I needed it), later my mom and dad came by for dinner. My dad helped me put together MT’s new bed – that took longer than I had thought – but he got to sleep in it that night. Lucky boy!

And with that our second week of vacation was over. Puh! Vacation is tiresome. And fun! Glad I have more of it left!

Tall grain and selling the house

Today we (finally) went by our old house to check it out a little. The grass has grown so. much. it’s crazy – and quite some job to get it all looking nice and freshly cut again. But we will get there. In a month or so we are planning on selling the house in the woods. We really do not need it anymore and we do not have the money to pay for it every month either. There are lots to do before we sell, though. Cleaning, tossing and figuring out the best way to “put it on the market”. I do wish I was better at this, usually I just push it ahead of me thinking I can do it another day. But not anymore. I’m not paying for that house another winter. There. I said it. Now all I need is to do it. (Good thing I’m on vacation).

Anyhow, we went by the farm as well and had a nice afternoon and evening with our family. I was glad to see my mama much more happy and her self than I felt she was last weekend – and it was sweet to spend some time with my brother and his family as well.

We took a little walk between dinner and coffee – and I snapped the one and only photo from our day.

Daily Instagram | Tall and swaying

This is an old type of Rye grain. We call it Svedjerug – I have no idea what to call it in English. It was used as a perfect grain to sow in newly made field. After the tree and bushes were cut they burned it right there in the field and then they sowed this type of grain in the still warm ash-filled soil. They sowed it so early that the grain germinated in the fall for the sheep and cows to gras on before the cold winter months came. It would lie dormant during the winter and then germinate again and grow into tall swaying grain during the summer months.

I love that it is so tall. It reminds me about my dad’s grain from when I was kid. All the grains grew tall back then. I loved to run and hide in it (even though it was not allowed). Seeing these tall grain sway in the wind makes me happy. I hope we can grow this kind of grain on the farm for a long time. And maybe we’ll even have animals that can gras the newly sowed crops in the fall – like they did in the olden days?! A lot of things are fantastic and great about the time we are living in right now – but something, like some of the food and the way we produce our food – was better before. I want that back. The fresh, the local and the seasonal.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my thoughts from our day – feel welcome to share your thoughts in the comments. Hope to see you around.

Blessed be!

What a HAPPY day!

I celebrated my birthday with family and friends today. And it was such a happy and beautiful day, even though the sun did not shine.

It was the people that came that made the day so good. All but one of my extended family could be there. My brother and his family as well. And some of my good good friends too. Some I hadn’t seen for a year or more. So nice to catch up and see how much the children have grown.

As usual I wanted to have a barbecue. Setting out the meat and vegetables and letting my guests take whatever they wanted and grill it themselves. I was a bit worried about the weather, but we did all right. Most of the children played outside for a long time, and we had room in the farm house for all when needed.

Off course I wished we could have been outside all day in the sunshine and soaked up the warm weather; that would have been great! Sitting under our apple treas, going to and from the BBQ as we wished and needed.

Maybe next time. I like to do this kind of birthday celebration every 5 years. I have already placed the weather wish for 2016 ;) Then I want some sun!

Thanks for reading this. I promise there will be some photos from this day eventually…. and maybe some words as well about being 40. :D

…….

Look for my 10 on the 10th blog post later today. I need some sleep ;)

A Saturday @ The Farm

Last Saturday (April 16th) my kid and I + my brother and his family visited The Farm.

Cousins @ the farm

My mom cooked us dinner (lovely fish dinner) and we spent the most of the afternoon outside in the beautiful spring weather. MT and his two cousins had fun (most of the time) running around, playing ball and discover nature. They also helped me cut a few branches for our Easter service on Palm Sunday.

My brother helped me with some light issues on my car and my SIL helped me make a wreath of thorns for our Easter service on Palm Sunday. In the evening there were coffee and cakes.

It was a really nice and relaxing day and I’m so glad we got to spend some hours together.

Thank you for looking! Have a great Monday :)

We’re going swimming at a pool and MT is over the top excited (it’s part of his birthday gift from me). Glad to spend some more time with him before work and school starts up again tomorrow.
