A Sunday Walk to the River

Yesterday I shared with you one of my recent favorite photos. As I told you I had plenty of photos to share and here is the rest of the story from that day:

We decided, that since we had the day off – and since we had completely been slackers the day before – it was a really good idea to take a walk to one of our favorite spots by the river. Ferdinand (the dog) had never been down by the river bank, so it sounded like a fun idea to see if he liked the water (he SO did!).

the house
As we walked by the house I captured it against the blue sky and saw all the snow on the ground and remembered how the house had shaken as it fell down from the roof a few nights before. MT said it sounded like thunder.

the river
It was a nice little walk, filled with lots laughs as MT slid and fell (over and over again) on the icy road through the woods.

the fall down the only way is up the sliding on icy road the conversations
The walk was also filled with quite a few small conversations between the two of us about this and everything (the best kind of conversations if you ask me).

Ferdinand loved the river Jumping the rocks
Ferdinand was all over the place smelling smelling smelling. And when we came down to the river bank he was just scooting from side to side, dipping his pows down in the cold water and seeming absolutely happy (and a little bit crazy).

the boot MT and the river
MT threw a few sticks and rocks into the water (as usual) and I just enjoyed watching the river, the woods and my boys. Thankfully I brought my camera and snapped away as we walked. Cherish the little moments – that is what I want!!

the woods
Once back home MT gave Ferdinand a warm bath. Later there were comic book reading and recharging of batteries. We all felt so much happier now than before we went outside.

Dyrsku’n – a fair

funatfair5 (1 of 1)

We went to a fair on Saturday.  It’s called Dyrsku’n (dyr = animal) from the beginning when farm animals (horses, cows etc.) where more important then carousels and cutlery.

The fair is local to us and one of the biggest fairs in Norway. We were one of ca. 30000 visitors that day – about 70000 visitor in total for the weekend – and that is in a village of ca. 2500 people. I can remember going to the fair every single year when I was kid; a great September tradition in our family.

funatfair3 (1 of 1)MT went there for his first time last year. Now he was eager to get past the gate another time. There is a lot to see, a lot to buy and a lot of people. This time we even took time to watch the horse show. :)

MT was most interested in the amusement park part of the fair, though – and he went through his tickets like fire (he only had 6 and then his cousin got two so no wonder it went fast). But he got to do what he wanted to (at least almost, because he was too small (thankfully) for a few of the larger carousels and one cost more money than I was willing to pay).

driving a bumper car

Here he’s driving electric car and below he is in the Ferris Wheel, both with his cousin. He also got to walk through the fun house and jump on a trampoline (his all time favorite last year – this year I think it was the ferry wheel that topped the list).

boys in snow

friends in snow

The kid next door (more or less) visited us tonight. And we had fun playing in the snow in the evening :) I had to join them because of the darkness (it was scary tigers in the forest!) – and ended up with a nearly shoveled drive way and a big smile on my face from spending 1.5 hours OUTside. I loved it; that kind of took me by surprise and I look forward to other nights like this with some of MT’s friends over. It so great to have the snow here, it’s a whole lot – but manageable (at least after a few days of getting it out of the road….)

Anyhow. It’s late. Better find my bed. Good Night!friends in snow

I’m not loving the blitz at these photos, but I had to shot them quickly because the boy moved fast AND it was snowing on my camera(!) Next time I hope to get more photos of them too!

The celebrating of the New Year!!

boy in smoke and stars..

I absolutely LOVE this photo of my nephew twirling his star sparkle (or what to call it) while the smoke from his fathers firework is making everything kind of purple. We celebrated New Years Eve with my brother and his family. We had a really good time with them and I LOVE this tradition of spending the Eve together. :D Thanks for having us!!

a nice long weekend

Note! I wrote this a week ago, but never published it.
I’ve added the photos and finally, here it is ;) The long weekend is August 14th – 18th, 2008.

It’s not long since I came back from vacation, but it was so good to have the weekend + a couple of days, free, last week. Days that we spent with our friend, family and IKEA ;)

Thursday we chilled out at home. Or that was the plan. I had a few scrap pages to finish and it took, off course, much longer time to finish than anticipated. (I don’t know why I still think that it will only go an hour doing a page?!?!?) Suddenly (to me) we were late, so I tried to finish my scrap while cooking dinner and packing at the same time. MT got to eat the dinner all alone with me running around trying to remember the important stuff. LOL. Then we just had to run because the bus was coming; we ran down and got there right on time. Puh! But the bus was late; if I knew I could have remembered to bring underwear for MT, or a t-shirt, or unplugged the laptop! (I’m so glad there wasn’t thunder storm that day)….. but didn’t dare to walk up again since the bus could come any time. And it did, after a 15 minutes wait or so. I ate my cold dinner at the bus.

My mom collected us from the bus and drove us the short trip home to the farm. Soon my friend Bea came as well and we enjoyed the evening together (at least, we all enjoyed it after Bea and dad fixed her car). As if this wasn’t company enough, my brother and family suddenly came by with their caravan (to place on the hill behind the farm house; best view in town ;)). MT had so much fun with his cousins and we adults chatted away; we even went for a little nightly walk.

Friday we woke up early. All of us tired. But thrilled (that goes for the adult), this was the going-to-IKEA day :D I think it’s over a year since last time, and I missed it so much. Fun to go with my friend too! MT didn’t find IKEA that funny, but he loved the play room and found himself a nice new animal.

The funniest thing was MT falling asleep while we looked around, I don’t know how he managed to sleep like this – but he sure did!
