The River Walks

Rain Boots
As the moving date gets closer I’m starting to notice the things that I truly will miss about living here among the threes. One thing is the people I will miss – but thankfully many of those I’ll keep contact with through my work (that remains the same as it as been). We’ll also try to keep in contact with MT’s close friends and their families.

Now, there are other things to this place that we don’t have at the farm: THE RIVER!

The river is just a few steps down from our house and I LOVE WALKING by it in the evening with our dog, walking in the forest behind our farm is nice, but it’s not the same, it’s something else entirely.

I’ll miss the sound of the running water.
I’ll miss the damp smell in the air as I get closer to it.
I’ll miss the mist and fog that surrounds it so often at night.
I’ll miss noticing if there are little, normal or a lot of water in the river.
I’ll miss the many colors of blue.
I’ll miss walking by it every day.
I’ll miss this as a place to find peace and stillness when I needed it most.

We are moving to a place that is dear to us – but there are always something that we leave behind that we would like to bring with us. For MT it is his friends (off course), for me it is the river. This also fills me with GRATITUDE – we had it there for a while and it meant a whole lot to us. The future will hold new great things that will mean the world to us – and sweet old memories that made us who we are.

December 12.12

This day did not go exactly as planned. I wanted it to be the best day ever. The rare twelve, twelve, twelve. It wasn’t. I might have disappointed. I was not the best me that I can be, but I tried. I really did. To pick myself up again, to sparkle the urge to try again I’ve decided to make myself a thankful note – TWELVE thankful notes – to remind me that most of the things in my life are good, and mostly I’m good too.

THANKFUL #1 : Being a Mama. I’m blessed to be mama to the very best son in the world. Objectivily speaking off course… Sometimes he drives me crazy, but then – just when I need it – he tells me he loves me and makes me sweet notes and drawings.

THANKFUL #2 : Where I live. I live in a country that is just beautiful. Both with snow and without.

THANKFUL #3 : Wood + Wood Fire. I have a wood fire to keep me warm during the cold winter months. And my dad brings me wood to feed the fire.

THANKFUL #4 : Friends. I have friends that loves me and understands – even when I’m not the best me there is.

THANKFUL #5 : Advent Star. The stars in my window makes me happy. It reminds me of the old days where we used to count the stars in the windows to make the driving from here to there go a little bit faster; and of all the Advent seasons I have celebrated as an adult in my own home. I love this season, as hectic and busy as it is.

THANKFUL #6 : Family Time. The time I spend with MT is precious. I love that he sometimes opens up and tells me stuff he’s been thinking about. I love the hours we’ve spent reading together – and all the movies we have watched too.

THANKFUL #7 : Work. My work and my colleges. Not always easy, but giving and meaningful.

THANKFUL #8 : Traditions. Especially visual now during the Advent and Christmas season. The old one that I’ve brought with me from my childhood and the new ones that MT and I make now.

THANKFUL #9 : Extended Family. They are an important part of our life and I love that MT feels so connected to them and wants to be with them all the time.I look forward to celebrate several of the days of this season together.

THANKFUL #10 : Faith. My believes in something larger than me. It is my work and my life.

THANKFUL #11 : ScrapbookingI love that there are so many ways to (digital) scrapbook – some is just words, some is just photos, some is mostly pretty paper – but mostly it is all of it combined. I can not imagine telling our story any other way.

THANKFUL #12 : Photograping. Both with my big dSLR and with my iPhone. Snapshots of our life. I love looking through them. Remembering.

The pure act of just writing this down as it came to me makes me feel so much better already. And tomorrow is a beautiful new day with clean sheets. I like that! Here are a few photos from this day. Hope your day had some sparkling moments too!

A bunch of Thanks | Thankful #7-#15

A Night Time Favorite

Thankful. That is what I try to remember to be now in November. Or, really, I try to be it all year roud, but this month I planned on doing a real effort of documenting my gratefulness; writing it down and taking some photos. We are now in the middle of the month, and what do I have to show?

30 Days of Thanks

  • A book that is more or less filled with words of thankfullness. Not all of the words that I wanted to get in there are there, but quite a few. (This mini book is the The Goods Mini Book by Amy Tangerine (American Crafts)).
  • Almost a photo each day, designated to its own day and explaned with a few words on Flickr and in my gallery at Capture Your 365. (I love it there, you should visit!)
  • A blog post for each of the first 6 days of the month…

I was wery good at writing blog post in the beginning of the month. The rest of the days….. so good! Frankly I haven’t written anything. So with this post I am planning to do something about that! Even thought I can’t document as much from my day as I wanted in this way (as I can when I blog from each day by it self). It is so much better than nothing. And I love any exuse to use lots of photos anyway. So here we go, the photos, the words, the thankfulness of the days 7 – 15 of November 2011:

November 7th
Thankful For Tech Luxory | Nov. 7-2011

I am thankful for the luxury of having a Macbook to capture and save the memories of our little family. I’m thankful for having the luxury of a fast internet connection and a international word wide scrapbook and memory keeping community to belong to as well.

November 8th
Thankful For His Heart | Nov. 8-2011

I am thankful for having this kid in my life. Often I think back to the day when we first met, he was 2,5 years old and I had traveled all the way down to Addis Abeba i Ethiopia. It was one of those days that I’ll never forget. It changed my life in a really good way!

Heart you right back my kid!

November 9th
Thankful For The Smiles | Nov. 9-2011

I am thankful for joy and happiness shared with family. I am especially thankful for the bond between my kid and my dad. I love when both of them smiles and they have time to indulge the photographer for a little second.

November 10th
Thankful For This Book | Nov. 10-2011

I am thankful for my love of reading. And even though I don’t read as many books each year as I did when I was younger I still read quite a few. This summer I read I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t): Telling the Truth About Perfectionism, Inadequacy, and Power by Brené  Brown – and it was amazing, and an eye opener as well. I’m so thankful for having this book on my shelf and for the things it taught me. Living with my whole heart that is what I want to do.

November 11th
Thankful For Time & Date | Nov. 11-2011

So happy to have had documented this special day of my life. I got lucky taking a photo with my iPhone right on the very minute too. 11.11.11. 11:11. So thankful for living this day mindful of it being a rare date that I want to remember, even though it also was a very regular Friday in our home. With work and school and the routine of our every day life. (I plan on doing more with the photos from this day, I even shot some video with my phone, I just need a little more time… or a lot!)

November 12th
Thankful For Food | Nov. 12-2011

Pasta with red sauce is our favorite comfort food. We often eat it on Fridays, but sometimes we eat it other times of the week as well. Ususally we eat it once a week. Not often more, but sometimes less. If you’ll ask MT what his favorite food is – he will answer this one and then he will add a few more, because he loves good food preferably with plenty of onion, chili and garlic in it. Yum.

November 13th
Thankful For Colors | Nov. 13-2011

I am thankful for the colors in my life. I love colors and I need to be surrounded by them to feel happy. For ages blue have been my favorite color, but for the last year orange have gotten dearer and nearer to my heart and is a color I am so happy to use as often as I can; to make something dull filled with life and fun.

November 14th
Thankful For Smiles | Nov. 14-2011

This little thing with color lights that he begged me for this summer was found in the frozen grass today. And it is still so much fun! Especially in the dark afternoon. I love the lines of the light here and can tolerate the blurriness of MT as he moves too fast for the shutter speed to grasp. Just imagine all the SMILES this brought today. I love when MT smiles. It’s the best thing there is!

November 15th
Thankful For Technology | Nov. 15-2011

I am thankful for the technology that enables us to document our life (blog, photos, scrapbooks and more!) and that it also is a way for MT to watch a movie or a TV program online. Here he is enjoying a science program for kids (he love the Newton show aired on Nrk i Norway).

Thank you for reading and looking!!
How are you doing? Do you have something to be grateful for today?
(I sure hope so, and would love to hear about it!)

Until next time; have a wonderful day!

One Little Word | Thankful #6

Checking The Weather

I feel like I’ve spent most of the weekend in church (or planning for church services). It really is a bit much when there is a service both Saturday and Sunday and when the week was so filled with events as it was,as well. Sometimes I get a little tired, to be honest, but still (and thankfully) there is many things to be grateful for on this day too (Sunday). Although we did not get to home cook  a fancy dinner together, at least we spent the Sunday together as a family. And MT was happy to have a quiet day where he could draw some more awesome drawings – I am so thankful for his love of drawing! – and be outside playing some football (soccer).

First a little note on the prompts and the way I use them:
The last few days I’ve stayed a bit off of Katerina’s prompt for the day, but I’m seriously inspired by them and like to use them as my starting point as I get her newsletter in the mail each morning. And if you haven’t seen her newsletter (it’s all renewed for this moth! Love it.) – you should take a look at the issue for Sunday here.

This Sunday I want to use the prompt from Saturday; a word I am thankful for.

I am thankful for my one little word of the year: FAITH.

Thankful For My One Little Word | Nov. 6-2011

I am thankful for the way it have made my belief in God, in my self and in others a priority in my life. I am thankful for the way it has pushed me to try and make a difference, daring to take chances I would not have taken before. I’m still going baby steps, but I am moving closer to the me I want to be and the life I want to live. One little word really do matter.

What are you thankful for today?

This is the sixth post in a series of Thankful post for the month of November 2011. I use the prompts from Katrina Kennedy’s November Photo Idea List as a starting off point and find at least one thing I am grateful for each and every day. Family | Thankful #5

Mr. Funny Face

This weekend is mostly work for me, so it was so nice that MT could spend some hours at his uncle and aunt’s place instead of tagging along with me.

We had a special remembrance service at church where we invited the families, that had lost a dear one the last year, to come and be together for an hour of song, prayers, lighting of candles and hope. It was a good service, but not something MT would have had so much use for. He was better off playing with his cousins.

When I got to their house to pick him up and stepped out of the car I looked down on my phone only to find a message from my brother:

Are you coming soon? Dinner is ready!

It was such a sweet and nice surprise. Tasty as well. Thank you so much guys!!

November Light | Thankful #4

Thankfulf For November Light

I am tired and should have been in bed an hour ago. But, hey, I have to get my thankful stuff down before I forget!

Today I am thankful for the LIGHT of November.
It fades just too fast in the afternoon, but before that – I love it! I’ve been watching it all day while working and when I had a few minutes to grab my camera I took a little tour of the garden. Look:

I am also Thankful, and quite a bit proud, of MT for being such a lover of books and reading. Mostly he loves to be read too (usually we read before he goes to bed), but he also can be found reading by himself. Today we took some extra time in the evening and finished the second book about Harry Potter. I have read them a few times already, but this is MT’s first round of the books. He loves them and can hardly wait to see the movie (since his momma demands that he read the book first, so he can make his own in-head-movie before he sees what others have dreamed up).

Home & Time | Thankful #2

Thankful For Home | Nov. 2-2011

Over the last 15 years I have lived many places and in many different houses. Each of them have brought something to my life. Something that has helped shape me. Something that made me grateful for having lived just there for shorter or longer periods of my life.

Thankful For Home | Nov. 2-2011

Everywhere I have lived I have brought my home with me. My home is not only a physical space. It is the place where I can relax, be my self, regroup and pull my self together when needed. It is where I have my base and where I get to chose how I want everything to be (more or less). I love that I have brought my home with me to everyone of the houses and places I have lived. I also love what I have brought with me to the next place – and how each of these places have influenced and grown my home.

Thankful For Home | Nov. 2-2011

In the last six years I have had someone with me sharing my space and home. Making it our home and our place of rest and comfort. My life have truly changed so much because of this. New joys and also new struggles. I can not imagine my life being any different right now. We belong together. We share the good, the bad, the ugly and the love that takes us through it all.

My home is my favorite place. Not a geographic place, but the place I have with me wherever I live. My home is where my heart is.

Thankful For Time | Nov. 2-2011

Today I am thankful for my HOME.
I am also so thankful for the TIME to think long and deep thoughts and the slow pace of my day.

I really needed it.
